The night at the old temple.

Masumi and Maya will spend the night at the old temple, since it is not going to stop raining soon. Maya has just realized that she loves Masumi Hayami, and she keeps crying. Masumi asks her if there is something wrong: she cries for no reason... Are all the girls like that? Maya tells him that he can't understand what girls feel...
Masumi laughs a lot:
Would it be enough to make you change your opinion on me? If I understood it, would you stop considering me heartless? I'm sorry for you, but tonight you're going to spend a long time with this heartless one... Unless you prefer staying in the rain...
Maya doesn't answer him back as usual, and Masumi is surprised:
You're unexpectedly mild tonight... Usually you shout that you don't even want to see my face... What's wrong with you chibi chan? Well, it's fine with me. I don't want to be in trouble with you...
Maya is thoughtful...
Ah! Now I understand! He constantly hides his feeling, as he is doing now! And it's me who induced him to do that! Please forgive me, Hayami san!
Masumi keeps talking to her: she is so melancholy... Is it rain's fault? The talk about the rehearsals for "Kurenai Tennyo" and then Maya asks him about his father. Masumi informs her that he hasn't been found yet, but he won't give up. He confesses her that even if he is not his real father, he misses him someway... Maya keeps looking at him...Then he stops:
You'll wonder why on earth I am saying all those things to you...
No... She is not wondering that at all...
On the walls of the old temple, are hanged some boards with the story of "Kurenai Tennyo": Ichiren Ozaki took inspiration from that legend! The two read the texts... Masumi tells Maya that he would really love to see her "Kurenai Tennyo"... Maya answers him that she would like to make a performance he likes!
Masumi is upset; he turns her back to her to add some wood to the fire:
I'm surprised that you say that. Didn't you hate me? Are you fooling me?
Maya is trembling... She explains to him that she used to hate him and to think he was a very bad person... But she is too embarrassed and she can't go on.
After a while, Masumi asks her:
And what made you change your mind? It's natural that you hate me... But I feel relieved... I have been thinking for a long time that you couldn't stand even seeing me...
He stands up and looks at her. Maya is speechless. Her heart is beating fast!
Masumi keeps talking:
...While I've always liked you. I love seeing you on stage.
The first time I saw you, you were Beth in "Little women". She was so pretty! Nobody could imagine you had a high temperature! Later I was said that you spent a night in the rain to understand Beth's illness... I was moved by a tiny girl with such a big passion!
The second time, it was Midori in "Take Kurabe". The exuberant Midori, so different from Beth, enchanted me... When Midori threw the piece of cloth to Shinnyo, you expressed the innocent feelings of Midori... I felt so sorrowful... I had never felt like that...
And then, it was the turn of "Gina and the 5 blue pots". When I saw you alone on stage, I felt remorse... Your Cathy in "Wuthering Heights" with her passionate love made me envy Heathcliff. Your boyfriend got away during the show. I told him that if he loved you, he had to stay until the end of the show...
Maya interrupts him:
And you? You, Hayami san?
Masumi: I stayed until the end of the show...
In "The miracle worker" your Helen Keller was so exciting... I could never stop watching her... As far as "Shangrila" I owe you my excuses... In "The story of princess Yasha" you made me feel bad... I still remember it when you ate those mud cakes on stage... I don't know if you will ever forgive me, but I have always wanted to apologize as I am doing now... Puck in "A midsummer night's dream", Ardis in "The two queens", Jane in "The forgotten wilderness"... I loved all your characters... I wish I had seen your solo performance at school...
Maya is standing in front of him. She doesn't say a word...
Hayami san... Purple rose fan... Please say just a word... Tell me you are my purple rose fan...If you do that, I'll fly into your arms!... Please, say it...
Masumi keeps looking at Maya. He's caressing her cheek:
And who knows how much I will like your "Kurenai Tennyo"...
A dazzling lightening interrupts him... He immediately keeps off her. He changes the subject and talks about the weather. Tsukikage must be very worried for Maya! Maya remarks that many people will be surely worried for him... Masumi doesn't believe that... He is like his father... Out of his business, nobody interested in him... Nobody but... Shiori!
Maya is touched... The beautiful Shiori! What a stupid she has been! Masumi is in love with her only as an actress! The girl is trembling...
The wood to burn is over. Masumi wants to go out to look for some more. Maya tells him not to go: she can resist until morning arrives. But Masumi insists: he couldn't let such an important product to catch a cold!
Hayami san! Are you taking care of me because I am a product? It's because of this that you looked for me in the rain, that you protected me with your coat...?
Masumi confirms that... Maya shouts at him not to leave her alone. If he goes out, she will go out with him!
Masumi is surprised.
Are you worried for me?... As you wish... But you'll freeze...
After a while, Masumi asks her if she wants to come next to him, so that they can keep warm. But, if she prefers freezing, he will not insist...
No... Hayami san... Please keep me warm... My hands and feet are freezing... I feel shivers down my spine... Please keep me warm! Like when we were in the rain... I'm the golden egg of Daito, right? Then, do it!
Masumi takes her hand, and he tugs her to himself...
But I am a man! I could lost control!
Maya embraces him and lays her head on his breast, without saying a word...
Hayami san! Purple rose fan! Please leave this moment to me! Tomorrow, I will wake up from all my dreams... I'll be the same as yesterday... Then, leave this moment to me... Let me dream until the new day comes! I don't care if you consider me a product... Now this moment is enough for me...
Masumi embraces her tight; his jacket falls down. He looks at her with a passionate look, then Maya nestles to his breast... Masumi smiles and embraces her again:
Sleep chibi chan... Before I lose my head! Tonight we are both strange... When you wake up, this will be just a dream...
Masumi cuddles Maya all the night long...
Night, long and short at the same time, you'll give me a bitter dream...

It's morning. Masumi hears the birds singing and he wakes up. Maya is sleeping in his arms.
The night is over. When you wake up, you'll fly away from my hands, like those birds... Then maybe I will only be able to protect you... And still, maybe I will the happiest one to see you fly high in the sky... Grow up soon, chibi chan! Even though you'll end up with flying to somewhere I can't reach with my hands...
Masumi kisses Maya while she is sleeping...
The dream is over...
After the rainy night, there's a sunny day. Maya and Masumi are walking back together. They look at the marvellous landscape. Masumi says to Maya:
It's marvellous to stay here with you in this valley... I wish I could stay like that forever... Fogetting about everything...
Maya shily agrees with him. Then she looks at the red plum trees and she thinks of the sacred red flowers of the plum trees, which bloom only in the valley... Like Maya's feelings... She removes from a red plum tree a twig covered with flowers. He gives it to Masumi.
Hayami san: this represents my feelings for you. I... I will never forgive about yeaterday as long as I live... I'll do my best with my performance. I would really love that you... You... Goodbye! Thanks for everything!
Masumi is shocked. He doesn't understand what Maya wanted to say. He enters his car... What's wrong with him? Maya's scent is still on his coat... He still feels her warmth... Her arm around his back... Her face on his breast... Her neck... The scent of his hair... He misses her so much!

Masumi arrives to the hotel. No news about his father yet. He looks at the blooming twig and... The flowers are all withered away! Once they are far from the valley... Masumi is upset: is it... The love of "Kurenai Tennyo"? Is Maya in love with him? No, it can't be...

Third subject to study and express: water.

Many reporters come see the rehearsals. Chigusa Tsukikage let them stay, provided they just observe without disturbing.
Ayumi performs the mermaid who becomes human for love. She is absolutely amazing, everybody is enchanted. Chigusa Tsukikage congratulates with her. Maya is enthusiastic about her performance! Her smile is so sincere that everybody is upset! Maya was so involved that she forgot Ayumi is her rival! Ayumi is even a little embarassed by her compliments!

It's Maya's turn. She enters the stream. She shows up by coming out of the waterfalls. She expresses Ryujin's fury towards humans who don't repsect water. Her interpretation is very impressive. At the end of her performance, she enters the waterfall again.
Ayumi is shocked. Maya really seemed the incarnation of Ryujin!
And the actress doesn't know why she interpreted Ryujin the way she did... She just felt this was the right way! Ayumi is disappointed! Maya doesn't plan anything, she has just a formidable intuition! Ayumi starts hating that girl...

Fourth subject to study and express: ground.

Ayumi's interpretation of ground is: Jomon clay, which she represents thanks to a rope. She shakes the rope so that first she looks like a snake, which the ancients used to worship as a god of the water and the ground. The snake expresses the energy of the ground. Then the rope is coiled and wrapped into a vase shape... Finally, the vase breaks and everything returns to the ground... A very refined interpetation..
For Maya the ground's power is a mother's love, which gives life...
Maya interpets a seed which is going to spring out of the ground, and which finally becomes a plant... He interprets the seed, its feeling while it's in the ground and while it's growing up... A natural and effective performance...

Chigusa Tsukikage congratulates with both the girls. They passed the test. The next test will be... "Kurenai Tennyo"! Maya and Ayumi will use what they learn from their interpretations of wind, fire, water and ground to create their own Crimson Goddess!

Eisuke Hayami found...

Eisuke Hayami wakes up in a hut. A man of the village saved him and took care of him. But... He is deaf-and-dumb! How can he help him to contact Tokyo? Eisuke gives him his luxury pocket watch, so that maybe someone will notice it in his hands and find him... And indeed, later Genzo notices the watch... The deaf-and-dumb man takes Chigusa Tsukikage and Genzo to his hut...

Masumi is back to the land of "Kurenai Tennyo". One of his informers told him that his father was found. Eisuke doesn't want to get back to Tokyo: Chigusa Tsukikage saved him!
The news that Eisuke Hayami is alive is spread in Tokyo: Shiori is very happy for Masumi, and she decides to leave for the land of red plum trees. Onodera and the actor Kei Akame use this excuse to go there. They know that Kuronuma is already there. Saurakoji has undestood his Isshin, so he can join Maya and Kuronuma. Even the president of National Drama Association wants to reach Chigusa Tsukikage...

Chigusa Tsukikage has an heart attack.
