It should make no difference...

Sakurakoji will interpret Stewart! Maya is a little worried.
The rehearsals go on. Maya is embarassed when she has to talk to Sakurakoji during the breaks, but Sakurakoji acts like a good old friend and Maya feels relieved. Finally we find out who the girl who always follows him is: it's Mai Aso, she is an actress in Sakurakoji's company. She is possessive and jealous; she knows that Sakurakoji used to date Maya. But Maya is not interested in Sakurakoji and she's happy to know that Sakurakoji has a girlfriend. Sakurakoji is still in love with Maya, but he lets Mai follow him...
The rehearsals go on...

One day, Maya reads on a magazine some gossips about Masumi Hayami. Is he engaged? Many photos have been shot to him and that beautiful woman...
Maya can't believe that such a cold man can be in love. She is annoyed, but she doesn't understand why... She can't calm down... She decides to call him from a telephone box. But she is too embarassed, and she doesn't know what to say. She asks him if there are any news about Tsukikage sensei, she tells him about the new role she is going to perform...
Masumi notices that she is rather strange... Is there something she has to tell him?
No! I wish you'll be happy!
End of the conversation... Masumi doesn't understand what the girls wanted to say... Maya runs away in tears...
What a stupid I have been! What did I want to tell him? Will he really have an arranged wedding? Was that article true? But, even if it was? It should make no difference!

The traffic light isn't always red...

Kuronuma and the manager of Osawa Theatre keep arguing.
The director was allowed to choose the cast, but the manager wants to win an award at the Arts Academy Festival at any cost. Kuronuma doesn't agree: he is a genius, his goal is directing a good play, not getting money or awards.

The rehearsals go on, and Maya understands Jane's part more and more.
First she has to howl as Jane did when she was captured. It's Jane's first howl, at the beginning of the play.
After many attempts, she emits the most heart-rending howl ever, while she thinks of her dead mother.
Later, she has to interpret Jane in a cage, surrounded by humans... Maya enters into the role so much that she is really scared and trembles...
And in many other scenes, Maya surprises all her co-worker with her talent.

A gala night party is held. Many famous producers, directors and even the members of the jury of the Arts Academy Festival are there...
Onodera congratulates with Masumi for his engagement, but Masumi remarks that nothing has been decided yet... Masumi Hayami overhears that Kuronuma and the production manager are entering the room. Masumi introduces himself to Kuronuma and asks him questions about the play he's working at. Kuronuma tells him that actors are like instruments, and the play is a concert: his task is to make instruments play a good sound. Maya Kitajima is a rare instrument. She has started understanding her character since the beginning and even if he is very severe at the rehearsal, she never gives up. Masumi knows that very well...
Then the director informs Masumi that Sakurakoji will be her partner. Hayami is a little upset...
The manager director takes Kuronuma away: he is afraid that the too frank director could ever offend Masumi.
Mizuki appears. She's holding a purple rose. She asks her boss:
Any changes of mind?
Masumi: What are you talking about?
Mizuki: About this purple rose... You still care... What are you going to do? Do you want to make rumours come true?
Masumi: Mind your business.
Mizuki: Yes, I'm just a secretary...
Mizuki puts the rose in Masumi's buttonhole:
Hayami san, the traffic light is not always red!
What does Mizuki mean? Masumi is more and more confused...

Maya and Sakurakoji get along better and better, both during the rehearsals and in the breaks... Some rumours about them arouse... Sometimes Maya is embarassed, because Sakurakoji seems to be still in love with her. Sometimes during the rehearsals she wonders if it's Sakurakoji or Stewart who tells her loving words...
On the other hand Maya knows that Sakurakoji has a girlfriend...

Is she jealous?

Mai is worried. Sakurakoji seldom calls her... One day she gets to the theatre to visit Sakurakoji and she reads the part they are rehearsing: Jane and Stewart fall in love with each other day by day. She is very alarmed! But Maya is not really interested in Sakurakoji. So when she sees her, she is happy to let her alone with Sakurakoji and she goes away. Moreover, she has just received a wonderful bunch of purple roses and an elegant French beauty case with a complete set for make-up!

Maya is very happy for the last present her purple rose fan has sent her. She collects many photos of her plays and she prepares a photo album for him. She calls Hijiri: she has something to give him! They meet at Lonlon Cafeteria, in Highland City Building.
Hijiri tells the girl that her purple rose fan will surely appreciate her gift. Then he asks her about her new job. Are the rehearsals too severe? Well, Tsukikage's ones were much worse! Suddendly, Hijiri asks a strange question:
Did you notice any change at Osawa Production?
Maya is surprised. She didn't notice anything.
Hijiri has just gone away. Maya realizes that he has missed the letter she wrote for her purple rose fan! It must has slipped away from the photo album pages!
Maya runs after Hijiri. He has just entered an elevator! The girl doesn't know what to do... She would like to follow him!
In the meantime, Hijiri and Masumi meet in the elevator at a certain floor. Hijiri gives him some secret documents about other companies, and Maya's present. Moreover, he informs Masumi that Osawa production are doing something strange. They have asked Yahiko Fujimoto to direct the musical "Isadora" and many actors from "The forgotten wilderness" have been called... The play will be on stage in Autumn, like Kuronuma's play! There's something strange...
Their meeting is over. Masumi arrives at the same floor where Hijiri met Maya: he finds Maya waiting in front of the elevator. He almost has an heart attack :) He hides Maya's photo album! Maya tries to describe Hijiri and asks Masumi if he saw someone like that... Masumi can't help her. They talk about "The forgotten wilderness" and Maya is very suprised! Masumi asks her the same question Hijiri asked:
Did you notice any change at Osawa Production?
Once again, the girl doesn't know anything. She asks about Tsukikage sensei. There is no news yet, but Masumi thinks she is in the land of Kurenai Tennyo, the wonderful valley where Ichiren Ozaki wrote his masterpiece. But... There is something more Maya would love to ask...
Is it true that he accepted to meet a woman for an arranged wedding? Masumi confirms that. Maya observes that she looks very beautiful... Masumi coldly comments that there are many beautiful women around him.
Maya is a little disappointed:
What kind of woman can date someone like you, cold, insensitive, only interested in business...
Masumi: A very patient and kind woman...
Touché!
Hayami san... Are you going to marry her?
Masumi is surprised: why does she ask such a question?
Maya doesn't know what to say:
Because... In that case... I would congratulate with you...
Masumi: Thanks, but unluckily we are not engaged. She is too much for me...
Maya: I see... She must be a wonderful person... I saw you two some time ago... You, Mr. Hayami, you were looking at her... And... I have never seen you smile like that...
Maya is trembling. Masumi is upset:
Chibi-chan... What's wrong with you? You're getting pale...
Masumi almost caress her on the face, but Maya slaps him on the hand:
Don't touch me! I wish you'll be happy!
The girl runs away crying.
I wish you'll be happy... Masumi is astonished. What's wrong with that girl? Oh... But... She already shouted the same words at the telephone...
Is it possible that she is... Jealous?
At home Masumi watches Maya's photos in the photo album she prepared for him, her purple rose fan.
Is it possible? She should hate him more than anyone else...
Suddendly, Masumi remembers Mizuki's words: the traffic light isn't always red...
